We are the Champions!!
After finishing in 3rd place two years ago and runners-up last year, Edward Heneage Primary Academy can finally say they are the champions of the 2016 DRET Summer Cup Sportshall Athletics competition.
Competing against many schools who have far more students to select from and in the presence of one of Great Britian's most celebrated Olympians, none other than Roger Black MBE, there were many tears of joy when it was annouced that we were the winners - beating all of the other 19 participating primary schools, including overall DRET Summer Cup Primary champions Cedar Road, who came a very close 2nd place, and our friends from the other side of Grimsby, Fairfield Academy, who achieved a strong third place finish.
The team have shown incredible commitment to attend all training sessions after school, showing remarkable team spirit and togetherness both in training and in competition when it could have been easier to lose hope after several near misses.
There is a great sense of pride around the Academy after our recent success amongst all students, staff and parents. It's been a long and emotional journey for the team, who have come so close in previous years, and hopefully this success will inspire the next generation to 'pick up the baton' when the majority of our current Athletics team move on to secondary school and achieve similar accolades in future DRET events.
Well done to all involved and thank you to the DRET team for another incredible Summer Cup event.
